[00:00:30] My second year into business, I started getting a lot of phone calls and emails from aspiring image consultants wanting to pick my brain about how I got into the industry, how I got started, and what advice I can provide them for starting their own career.
[00:01:00] While I initially did that for a little bit, I eventually ran out of time to be able to take all those phone calls.
[00:01:30] What I decided to do, which I was very unsure of early on, was to launch a monthly teleseminar series. Every month for 60 minutes, you could call and have a Q&A. It was paid. There was a very small fee to attend. I would answer any and all questions about getting into the industry, with full transparency. Well, it completely flopped and so what I was unsure about ended up coming true, but a lot of people were fearful that if I started doing this, essentially I’m training my competitors. I’m building up other business owners in the same industry, and what if they take over my clients? That thought really never went through my head.
Although the teleseminar packaging failed, it simply just needed to be repurposed in a format that people wanted, which was through e-learning. If it wasn’t for taking that first step, although I was a little bit unsure, we never would have had The Studio. We wouldn’t have these amazing courses and I sure as heck would not have an amazing business partner along with it.
[00:02:00] At the very beginning of my career I just offered everything to everybody. I thought, I’m going to be a personal shopper, a wardrobe consultant, a color consultant, an image consultant, a speaker and a trainer, and I’m going to work with female clients, and with male clients, and with plus size, and with petite and with basically everybody on the market. Just come and pay me money for the great service I have to offer to you. It really didn’t work out. At one point I made a major decision and I considered this to be the best decision of my business so far, which is to go into a niche.
[00:02:30] Now it is, I only offer services to executives and politicians and corporations on a high level. What did it do for me? It simply added credibility. In fact, I didn’t lose clients, what I was afraid in the very beginning.
[00:03:00] I added credibility and trust to my profile so I gained more clientele. Also, it’s easier for me to market them because if you go into a niche, you know where they hang out, how you can market them, where you find them.
[00:03:30] Last but not least, it reduces your competition because your true competition are only those consultants who are in the same niche like you are.
