[00:00:30] Growing your email list is incredibly important. That is actually one of the things that I wish that I would started doing from day one. I didn’t realize until much later in my business just how important that mailing list truly is.

[00:01:00] The best way to grow it is to offer the people that are going to be joining it something of value, which we call an opt in bribe. Essentially, we give you a bribe so that you will give us your email address. This usually comes in the form again, as something very highly valuable like a PDF checklist or a free e-book, or maybe it’s a free webinar or it’s something that you are delivering to them in exchange for that email. These days, just a bar that says, sign up for my newsletter on the side of your website, just doesn’t cut it.

[00:01:30] You really need to prove your value and you need to prove your expertise and there’s really no better way to do that than to start things off with your email subscribers, by giving them that something that really showcases just how great you are.

[00:02:00] The best way to capture email addresses is probably right on your website. However, make sure that the sign up is very easy for your audience and that you offer something in exchange, because if they don’t need one thing it’s one more newsletter in their mailbox, right? You have to offer them something of real value in exchange next to your newsletter in my opinion, which might be a specific list, or tips and tricks or a free e-book or whatever you can give them in exchange to the very valuable email address they are willing to share with you.

[00:02:30] The second thing is from the perspective of being a speaker, always make sure that your audience has an easy way to sign up for your newsletter and to share their email address with you. That might be if you’re speaking in front of a group, as easy as you just collect their business cards or you give them a paper list to sign up, or you do it a little bit more advanced from the perspective of technology. For example, I have used a join my text for many years where they sign up via text message by sending a specific word to a number that I own. In the meantime I use something different called conferences in IO. They share their email addresses right from their phones with me and end up on my email list.
